If you have to work in order to pay for things you need to live (food, water, shelter, healthcare), that's extortion. Capitalism creates power dynamics that void consent.
That's why the "if you don't like a job just quit" argument makes no sense. It's unrealistic. People have bills. People need to eat. It's not always easy to find another job that pays better.
Not to mention that these better paying jobs often have requirements that folks are de facto barred from meeting. What do you do if you can't afford a $100,000+ degree? What do you do if you're undocumented and can't find another employer?
What do you do if you're unhoused and don't have an address to put on your resume or a computer to type it up on? Shouldn't everyone have food, water, and shelter regardless of their labor output?
