Twice when I tried to ask Sen. Hyde-Smith questions during her 2018 campaign, she told me to walk over to her press secretary, Melissa, and tell her my question.

After I did, Melissa would walk over, whisper with Sen. Hyde-Smith, and then I could re-ask the senator my question. https://twitter.com/cindyhydesmith/status/1356686324917542918
Speaking of being "disrespectful" to members of the press, this is how Sen. Hyde-Smith's campaign celebrated her 2018 election night victory: By tagging me & other Mississippi reporters in the tweet below (I broke the story on her segregation academy). https://twitter.com/TeamHydeSmith/status/1067631051504304129
This is how Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith answered four reporters the day after @LamarWhiteJr published her "public hanging" video.

"We put out a statement yesterday, and we stand by that statement."

"I put out a statement yesterday, and that's all I'm going to say about it." (cont)
We were all a little shocked when Mississippi's senior U.S. senator arrived to take questions at a press conference for the junior U.S. senator's campaign—even though she was still in the same building.

She said she had to get back home to her husband. https://twitter.com/thisislarrison/status/1065066609176453123
Back in 2018 ahead of the special election, both of Sen. @CindyHydeSmith's opponents, Republican @senatormcdaniel & Democrat @MikeEspyMS, sat down 1-on-1 for over an hour for an interview with me.

Sen. Hyde-Smith's campaign for months told me she couldn't fit it in her schedule.
The first time I met Sen. Hyde-Smith, I walked up & started talking to her & she began to answer one of my questions.

Then she stopped herself and said, "Oh, I might get in trouble" and she started calling out for her then-press secretary, who walked over to oversee the senator.
And I'm not the only Mississippi journalist who has had these experiences.

Larrison Campbell got this email from Sen. Hyde-Smith's office:

"Do you want to go ahead and send questions in the mean time?" https://twitter.com/thisislarrison/status/1356781781568077825
