To be clear this isn’t an indictment of left politics. What liberals are offering is the same sort of apologia for rape and racism just with different flavoring, and they have no systemic critique so fuck them too. But I’m not aligning with people who mock women for their assault
This irony-poisoned need to place yourself in a position of smug authority looking down on absolutely everyone who displays a shred of genuine emotion or vulnerability that’s not just “I am poor, fuck you” is a dead end. As a poor person, fuck you for your reductive bullshit.
Sometimes people have suffered hardships that have more than just a simplistic class dimension. Maybe class itself is less arbitrarily defined than you podcast nerds like to imagine and in fact has to do with a web of interconnected social conditions.
The thing is I don’t think the worst of the worst characters on left Twitter who do this shit are that high in number. What bothers me are the people who follow and listen to their podcasts and make excuses for them while being like “I don’t always agree with them but...”
That’s the kind of shit that will prevent solidarity and the alignment of a real working class multiracial left coalition, right there. You can’t tell me you don’t “agree” with people who mock sexual assault survivors but you still love their podcast and RT their mess. Nah.
