Welcome to the breakdown of my favorite Mac Miller album, GO:OD AM

Drop a RT to show some love 🙂
Mac Miller's third studio album dropped in 2015 & Mac brought in some great features like Ab-Soul, Lil B, Miguel, Little Dragon, & Chief Keef.
This album is special for multiple reasons. You can hear his battle with addiction throughout but also his motivation to better himself. He is also at his peak with rapping & has incredible production too.
While the album title is simple (meaning good morning), some have pointed out that it could have a double meaning "GO OD" which makes sense considering the substance throughout.
As we begin this 70 minute album, Mac starts us off with Doors and in the short 1:19 it is, we learn that Mac isn't quite sober but he's doing a lot better with it, and then we get an alarm and brought into Brand Name.
Brand name is very a feel-good banger & gets better on every listen honestly. The track is deep too though, with Mac saying that just because something has a brand name doesn't necessarily mean there's more to it & that he doesn't think he was as special as everyone thought.
Rush Hour is a fairly short track with Mac riding the beat & giving us what we all expected on it: a rush hour reference lmao. Having Vinny close at the end was perfect. "Don't ever become content because you will repent", very deep line.
I'm so glad Ab-Soul and Mac did a sequel to Matches & brought us Two Matches. Their chemistry was always a spectacle. Also I will NEVER forget this explanation to Mac's lyrics from this track lmao.
Track 5 is Mac's first single off GO:OD AM, 100 Grandkids. Another banger. Also, are we going to forget the fact that he used this line? "Gettin' faded, I been stoned all week. But what's a God without a little OD? Just a G." FIRE.
Did you know Mac and Lil B were great friends AND in the same XXL freshman year? The track Time Flies is also pretty deep and straight forward at the same time. Time flies so don't take things for granted. Enjoy life & live in the moment - hold onto memories.
Oh surprise another BANGER. Weekend ft. Miguel just might be one of his biggest hits. This is such a feel good track that instantly changes the mood. This is real pregame music & there's not much more I need to say on this track, just enjoy the vibes.
I'll be honest, Clubhouse isn't my favorite off the album but it's not really bad either. The beats carries it for me & fun fact: Ab-Soul was at Mac's studio working when he got the beat. Mac asked him if he could have it & then Clubhouse was born.
Although he isn't featured on In the Bag officially, Juicy on the hook goes HARD. Even ScHoolboy Q was in this track in a little skit at the end. Unrelated to the track but I just wanna drop some funny back and fourth tweets from Mac and ScHool lol.
Track 10 is Break the Law, one of the hardest tracks on here. Crank this in the whip and you'll know what I mean.
It's pretty cool that Mac decided to get Juicy on this track too. The track ain't deep by any means, it's really just about breaking the law lmao. How about it LIVE?
Now we get Perfect Circle / God Speed, which is still eerie to listen to. "You make your mistakes, your mistakes never make ya". That line speaks to me so much in this track. This is easily my favorite Mac Miller song and for good reason.
Next up, When in Rome brings us Mac Miller just spitting. This track is interesting because Mac wanted to show that he could also kill a trap beat hence the term "when in rome" you "do as the romans do". Also, FEEL THE ENERGY IN THE CROWD!
ROS was always a favorite Mac track of mine. Mac gets in his emotional bag on here talking about his girlfriend (at the time). The track stands for Rain or Shine & it's really just him spilling his feelings out on the track creating something beautiful in the making.
Cut the Check is a fun track featuring Chief Keef, who has a short but sweet verse. Overall it's really just a fun track with them boasting and vibing on it. It's fairly short but I really loved Keef's verse.
Track 15 and the 3rd to last is Ascension. For the longest time this was my favorite Mac track, ever. It hit me at a time where I was going through big changes in life and it helped with it. It made me feel reborn if that makes any sense. It's a very slow but powerful track.
The second to last track is Jump. Mac even said that he made a hit with this track & wanted it to feel all over the place letting it go. He also said for the longest time he was in a dreamlike state (due to drugs) and the track was was meant to feel like he was escaping that.
Another thing to note on this track was that Mac had a slick Bill Murray reference and here's a short video of him explaining it!
Finally track 17, The Festival. If you didn't notice, GO:OD AM ends in sequence, having the ascension, then the jump, and finally reaching the festival (heaven). That is so deep in itself. Also Mac got Yukimi from Little Dragon to play God because he prefers God as female.
Now before I end the thread, I wanted to drop a video of Mac on Larry King which I think was dope to see. He gives a brief explanation of GO:OD AM too

Thanks for stopping by on my breakdown of my favorite Mac album!
