If you happen to know of a certain loud fandom contingent with a self-appointed leader who puts out culty (and grifty) vibes, here is the best thing you can do to counteract their hate campaign:
Mute, block, and DNI.
Mute, block, and DNI.
Don't QRT their shit to dunk on them: all interactions help the tweet. If you really have to counteract specific misinformation, stick to screencaps so the connection is severed.
Above all, don't attack people they've recruited to the "cause," no matter how disappointing it is to watch people you admired start behaving like asshats, because that will just reinforce their sense of persecution--and their loyalty.
Going after people who've been recruited to the hate campaign creates an occasion for the instigators to swoop in and defend them. If you're disappointed in somebody, block and mute and be sad about it in private.
It's not as satisfying as hitting back or dunking on posts that are outright stupid, but if the outcome you actually want is for their crusade to lose steam sooner rather than later, ignoring them is what will accomplish that.
Treat it like QAnon or TJLC.
