Would you rather have a life expectancy of 75 in a world of dancing, singing, drinking, stadium concerts, team sports, New Year's Eve parties, family bbqs, theatre, gyms etc, or a life expectancy of 85 in a world without them? (Note well: that may not be a theoretical question.)
Convivial gathering is not our generation's smoking, some kind of nasty addiction that those who look after us can forbid us for our own good. It is near the very core of what it is to be a flourishing human at all.
Some things perhaps we shld do differently though. Perhaps we were too tolerant of folk who went to work or on public transport or to shops with bad flus or other nasty viruses. We thought if they didn't threaten our lives that didn't matter, but maybe we shld think differently.
