Loyle Carner: uk rap’s nice guy.
(thread)
Benjamin Gerard Coyle Larner, mainly known as Loyle Carner, is a rapper from the uk. his style of music is very unique when compared to anyone else in the uk scene and i think that is what puts him in the conversation as one of the best of this new wave of british hip hop.
influences:
Loyle says that he is influenced by Bob Marley, Mos Def and MF DOOM. you can hear all these blueprints in his music and it makes for a great listen. he’s always calm and collected. it’s some very optimistic music, you can just daydream to it in peace.
debut:
in 2017, Loyle released “Yesterday’s Gone”. it was a great debut album in my opinion. he showed his niche to the world with mellow instrumentals with soothing lyrics throughout. i’d say this is the best introduction to his music. my favourite track is “Stars & Shards”.
new waves:
in 2019, Loyle released “Not Waving, But Drowning” and that was another reason why 2019 was so good for uk music. it puts a new spin on that original chill sound he was known for, with a different style of production. my favourite track is definitely “Ice Water”.
Yesterday:
this is 100% my favourite song by him. madlib’s production is insane as expected, and Loyle capitalises on it so well. i’d love to see them make more music together, because it seems that they have an unexpected chemistry where they just play off each other so well.
end of thread. follow for more, i write a lot about artists/music i like. this week i’m only writing about uk artists/music because i love it.
