My younger sister, who has been very ill with COVID over the past week, including pneumonia, asked me to share this as she is not on social media. For anyone who is not taking this disease seriously, please reconsider. She is 35 and the mom of 4-yr old. It has been awful. 1/
Hearing her go through this & being so far away has been easily the hardest, scariest part of this whole pandemic for me--of the past few years, really. I am happy to report she is hopefully through the worst of it, though the recovery will take a while. Here are her thoughts: 2/
"Covid is not a disease that can be taken lightly. It is an aggressive, relentless beast that wreaks havoc on so many parts of your body, leaving you terrified and in pain. 3/
"This can NOT be about politics, but rather must be about love. Love of your family, friends and neighbors. We have to do what is right to protect the people we cherish, and the people YOU cherish. Masks and socially distancing are such small things we can do to save lives. 4/
"There is no excuse not to follow these protocols and not doing so is KNOWINGLY putting other peoples lives at risk...no different than if you choose to drive drunk. 5/
"The anxiety with this disease of becoming part of the 400,000 plus deaths is not something I would wish upon anyone. I pray people will start to think about this disease with their hearts as opposed to their political minds and stubborn self-righteousness." 6/
Folks, please heed my little sister's words, coming to you from a place in Texas where, like too many other places, COVID ignorers and deniers are rampant. Don't be selfish. Don't ease up. Be smart. Take care of yourself and those you love. Wear a f*cking mask. /fin
Huge thanks to everyone for the well wishes and healing thoughts for my sister—they mean a lot. I’ve passed them on to her and she’s very grateful.
