Vilsack promised to prioritize antitrust enforcement, climate change, and discrimination in 2009 and then proceeded to exacerbate those very problems. I get the desire to find victories but this isn't one by any measure. https://twitter.com/CodyAlanAtk/status/1356635544516784128
In his first press conference as a nominee in 2009, Vilsack said he would make USDA a national leader on climate change.
He also promised to prioritize climate change, clean air, and clean water several times his 2009 confirmation hearing statement. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/transcript_vilsack.html
He concluded the substantive part of his statements with a stirring civil rights message, promising, "Discrimination in any form will not be tolerated in this department."
Vilsack also promised that poultry and livestock markets would be "competitive and fair" in his 2009 hearings.
And of course there's his infamous 2010 listening tour, which @clairekelloway covers here, when he promised new regulations to address anti-competitive behavior, and then proceeded to help bury those regs. https://theintercept.com/2020/12/11/democrat-tom-vilsack-usda-secretary-farms/
