Anyone who lives in Birmingham will have noticed the huge increase in fly-tipping in our city during lockdown. There’s lots of different culprits – dodgy traders, cowboy builders and selfish residents – who are causing misery to their friends and neighbours. (1/14)
Your Labour Council has been taking action for years to try and eradicate this scourge on Birmingham:
✔Since 2012 we’ve increased the number of prosecutions from 9 a year to 154.
✔Increased fines for offenders from £3,656 to £175,643. (2/14)
The problem is that fly-tipping has massively increased during lockdown. That’s costing Birmingham £700,000 a year. Selfish dumping means that money can’t be spent on Birmingham’s care homes or schools. (3/14)

During Covid our binmen have worked heroically to keep weekly collections going through three national lockdowns, especially during the horrible weather we had in January. (6/14)
Our Parks Team collected a HUGE amount of litter especially in the summer – in June 2020 alone, six months’ worth of litter was collected from our parks. (7/14)

First of all, we are going to name and shame those dumping on Birmingham’s streets. This was first introduced by Labour in Barking and Dagenham, whose social media posts have reached almost 2million residents. (10/14)
To help catch those fly-tippers, it’s essential we can catch them in the act. To do that, we have mobile cameras which can be moved around the city to target fly-tipping hotspots and intend to invest in more of them. (11/14)
Finally, we want to support the vast majority of Birmingham residents who don’t dump waste in our streets. (12/14)
There are also a number of amazing community groups who organise litter picks throughout Birmingham. We want to support those with pride in their area by helping collect the rubbish they pick up and help clear communal land. (13/14)
We know cleaner streets are the priority for everyone in Birmingham. Let’s unite to #DefeatTheDumpers and keep our streets clean. (14/14)
