How to really use the 80/20 principle

///Mini Thread\\\\\\
You see a lot of people talk about it and say they use it

However, they tend to just reference the idea as 80/20 without explaining how it actually works

I have even caught a consultant out using it as a buzz term without understanding the layers

Typically you go 3 layers deep
A little example:

Say you were starting your side business and still busy at your 9-5

You have 100 large tasks to complete to launch your side thing, you might be feeling overwhelmed.

If you use the principle stopping at the 1st 80/20

You would have 20 big tasks left...
20 tasks are still a lot of tasks, right?

To use the principle effectively, you would now 80/20 the 20

Giving you 4 tasks left...
Now, can you get 4 large tasks done in a day?

Maybe not, but maybe in a week, sure.

But what do you focus on today?

Well, you 80/20 the 4 tasks and prioritize them...
Now I know if 80/20 4 that leaves you 0.8

But we are in the world of numbers here, so you would round that up to 1.

There you go, you now know what task is most important to do today.
One thing that does tick me off in the corporate world is hearing people use buzzwords because they are in trend

But remember, 90% of the buzzword-heavy people don't actually understand the processes they are talking about.

So remember talk less in jargon and pump out results.
