I was going to post the following in ongoing response to a convo I'd been having today with a fellow tweep (h/t @pjanik_otm), but on reflection, thought I'd just throw it out there for wider consideration as I think the fundamentals are relevant to our wider (green) audience:
People are subject to the ebbs & flows of all sorts of emotional tides that affect their perception and internal rationalisation of 'truth'. Facts absolutely *do* matter, but equally, people need to be able to place those facts within a context - a story; a narrative 1/
that speaks to them and their lived experience. In respect of #nuclear I'm sympathetic to fellow Greens who've over th yrs garnered and continue to harbour a mistrust of it as a solution to our #ClimateCrisis; In the past, it is beyond doubt that errors of judgement were made 2/
but we are in a position now to move forward with eyes wide open. But to do this, our fellow Greens need to be actively willing to question the veracity of the information (and misinformation!) that they have received. They need to consciously unpick the heuristics that have 3/
shaped their 'gut-feelings' about #nuclear, and it takes courage and real moral fibre to even begin to do this when your prejudices are so deeply sown. I don't envy *any* Green Party member who's resolving to confront this paradigm-shift in their beliefs. It's tough AF tbh... 4/
Nonetheless, we are on *such* a dire trajectory climate-wise that all of us - greens AND non-greens - need to challenge our assumed and prevailing worldview on many MANY things. Collective 'received wisdoms' are moot, and no-one holds a monopoly on 'the truth' 5/
As I have previously stated, we have entered an age where *everyone* needs to radically re-evaluate previous habits of thought and behaviour, and fellow Greens and the environmental lobby should not feel themselves to be above that requirement
