I don’t want to harp, but I feel festival culture is very weird about women filmmakers who make fiction films that are about womanhood or feminism. not good or bad... just a strange air. hard to describe. not trying to start a debate—it’s just an observation.
but I also acknowledge that a lot of these filmmakers are upper middle class white women and thus unaware how limited their worldview tends to play out onscreen. but I don’t necessarily believe male directors are much better in this regard.
please don’t come into my replies and be weird as if I talk about this stuff all the time. I mind my business and do my work and stay out of broad conversations. I’m making a very tame observation here with no malice involved. don’t be an asshole.
