When women first began entering the workforce, they were framed as selfish for abandoning their husbands and children. Their contributions to the family's bottom line and to the economy were under-valued.
Now, childcare and schools are closed, inaccessible, unpredictable, or out-of-reach. So women are stepping in to fill the gap. But still viewed through the lens of failure (for quitting work or doing it poorly or letting their kids watch screens for 6 hrs/day).
Stop using the language of choice when there is literally no other option.
