It's #BlackHistoryMonth
! Each day (by a thread) I'll highlight an early career black botanist/plant scientist! Check them out! First is @KionaElliott, a @WUSTLdbbs NSF fellow at the @DanforthCenter in @becky_bart lab! Kiona studies how cassava defends itself against pathogens.

For Day 2 of #BlackHistoryMonth
, I'd like to highlight Roy Davis @RoyD_pathology, a grad student at @TAMU! Roy's research involves measuring a pathogen's density and movement during infection. He does this through modeling and using plant imaging tools such as unmanned aircrafts!

Day 3 of #BlackHistoryMonth
, I'm highlighting Dr. Morgan Halane @themorgantrail. Morgan is a NYC-based biologist with a speciality of studying small molecules of pathogens (effectors) and how they cause disease in plants. He's also a co-founder of @BlkBotanistsWk!

4th Black plant scientist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is Taylor Harris @taymharris, a @WUSTLdbbs grad student in @becky_bart lab! Taylor studies how two bacterial pathogens work together to infect cotton. She also serves on the DEI Council at the @DanforthCenter!

5th botanist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is Dr. Tanisha Williams @T_Marie_Wms, a post-doc at @BucknellU! Tanisha's research involves how plants respond to the world around them, especially during climate change. Notably, she's the founder/chair of #BlackBotanistsWeek!

6th plant scientist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is R. Shawn Abrahams @Young_Eukaryote, a grad student @Mizzou in @JChrisPires 's lab! Shawn studies the evolution of plants in the mustard family (over 200 species!) and how their metabolites have diversified over time.

7th botanist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is Maya Allen @Glossopetalon, a grad student at @UNM! Maya's researches plant evolution and systematics, and she explores the evolutionary consequences of phenotypic plasticity. She's also a co-founder of #BlackBotanistsWeek!

8th plant scientist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is Jade Bleau @jade_bleau, a grad student @SBSatEd in @SpoelLab! Jade studies how plants regulate responses to environmental stresses by signaling via oxidants systems. Jade is also a co-founder of #BlackBotanistsWeek!

9th botanist I'm highlighting for #BlackHistoryMonth
is Dr. Brian Atkinson @BrianAtkinology, an Asst. Professor/Curator of Paleobotany at @KansasUniv! Brian recovers plant fossils from across the globe to characterize them and study their evolutionary histories.
