Here is a mini rant. I don't know where it will stop.
The Pelicans have a poor process in place. Let's start from the handling of Zion which is a microcosm of the larger picture. They have subbed him out late game a handful of times this year, and each time it has failed.

What's the big lesson learned here? What is he learning when you sit him and he watches the 5 on the court make the same mistakes on both ends over and over? Is the fractional probability you mount a comeback with him on the bench worth it?
This is a poor process.
This is a poor process.
It's also emblematic of the larger picture. Where the Pelicans constructed a roster designed to be more than a bottom feeder at the expense of multiple picks. Yes hindsight is 20/20 but it's a valid question to ask what was the goal? Paying to lose is not a good process.
If you could do back in time to the summer of 2019 - do you ever sign JJ? Do you ever pay a few seconds to bring over Favors? I wouldn't.
It's possible to bring in good vets through other pathways. This past summer was a repeat of 2019 in a lot of ways.

The on floor results, however, are also a repeat of the previous year. You have a situation where the roster clearly isn't built to win in both depth and fit that you paid premium for and a coaching staff benching your best player in critical moments trying to overcome the roster
This is a bad process. What I'm worried will happen is a doubling down on this. A star like Beal either is traded elsewhere or unavailable, and the Pelicans are left desperate to get wins and end up paying premium for so/so players.
This will be a bad process. Rant over.
