I did some yelling at my phone this morning while listening to today's @nytimes Daily podcast on climate.

Why?

1) Please please don't claim that if the US moves to zero emissions from electricity by 2035 there will be no sea level rise. COME ON.
2) Please talk about justice. This isn't just about losing jobs in oil and gas (and gaining them elsewhere). On whose land is renewable energy produced? How expensive are homes that have been weaned off fossil fuels? How accessible is nature and public space?
3) Please at least mention ways that reducing GHGs can make lives BETTER (not exactly the same but with fewer storms). Weaving nature through cities, improving public health, creating compact complete communities that don't require a car at all and bring people together etc etc
4) Waking up in a detached home, making coffee, buying Doritos and driving to work (their story, not mine), but having all of that fuelled/powered by renewable energy represents virtually ZERO change to our day-to-day lives. This vision is totally conventional and unimaginative.
Aaaaaanyway. I'm so glad good news on climate is coming out of the US. This is an exciting time. But holy bonkers we need to level up the conversation we're having about it.
