This is the story I wrote in November about my view of the industry as a woman in baseball. I am much angrier now after the Porter and Callaway revelations. But what I wanted to express was that sexism/misogyny is everywhere and not always so extreme. https://theathletic.com/2196518/2020/11/13/kim-ng-marlins-gm/?source=emp_shared_article
What I would like to be clear to people who care about baseball is that for every Jared Porter or Mickey Callaway, there are 200 otherwise good people brushing off smaller sexist insults and indignities. Processing the gender imbalance is a daily practice. https://theathletic.com/2196518/2020/11/13/kim-ng-marlins-gm/?source=emp_shared_article
One thing that has been extremely heartening to me following the Porter/Callaway stories is that fans seem to be mad that women are made to jump through these hoops. The sexism we experience is an active impediment to you all learning more about your favorite team.
This could be said about gender, race, sexual orientation. Especially when they intersect. Anything that separates one from the general demographics of the industry. The inequality is not just painful, but it holds back progress in baseball and breadth in reporting. We all lose.
