Before I go off, here’s a letter that’s circulating. The recipient of the letter is Dwight Mckissic, a prominent pastor.
TL:DR: Racist vitriol using the Bible/church culture as a justification.

This next document is a letter that Dwight HIMSELF wrote years ago.

So basically, the same man who sent the goons to harass a lesbian bishop (and signaled violence towards the rest of us) is now himself the target of racist violence.
And we all know that these kinds of violences stem from the same place. And that places like churches are MAJOR CULPRITS because power remains unchecked, for individuals AND groups.
Something many of us said when the world praised certain pastors for leaving the (notoriously homophobic, transphobic, misogynist) Southern Baptist Church:
Hmm.
Interesting.

Hmm.
Interesting.

I find it funny how Dwight McKissic could pen a violent letter against queer people (directed at one woman but certainly aimed at all of us) using the Bible, and now he’s telling us “omg I’m suffering racism.”
I’m not saying he deserves racism. Nobody does.
I’m not saying he deserves racism. Nobody does.
You used the Bible to harass an entire class of people and I’m supposed to believe you’re any different from the people currently harassing you?
Are Black queer people not also Black? LOL.
Are Black queer people not also Black? LOL.

It’s also interesting to see folks side with Him. White people and Black straight folks.
When Dwight wrote what he wrote, Bishop Flunder (a Black lesbian) had to have security when she spoke. She received credible threats against her safety. From Christians.
All this to say, when people say “screw the church,” I can’t even be mad. Because this is the fruit.
So don’t send me that damn letter. I don’t care. I want all Black people to be safe but I’m not extending any of myself towards Dwight.
It’s possible to fight racism in other ways.
