Half term report card ( lengthy thread). Goal keepers. B+. Fabianski is a very solid keeper. He handles crosses into the box well he makes the saves he should his distribution is excellent. But he hasn’t regained his preinjury form where he single hardly kept us on games.
Back up goalies. Randolph is adequate but his distribution is poor and he sometimes flaps at crosses. Martin and trott are good back ups.
Defenders B+. Dawson and Ogbonna are steady as rocks. Coufal has been a relevation at RB. Cresswell has improved so much back to his best but played his best in a back five. Masuaku was playing very well with a dodgy knee Can’t wait for his return.
Backup defenders are adequate to good. Johnson can back up both full back positions. Bulbuena was playing well and is a great third option. Diop has lost confidence. Fredricks needs to go. Some exciting options in the academy.
Defensive midfield. A- would be A+ if we had back up. Rice has played only one poor game this season and continues to be one of the best players at his position. Soucek does the dirty things quietly and is great in the box. Noble occasionally turns back the clock.
Offensive Midfield. B- Thinking about this group often leaves me thinking “ what if..”. Benni has flashed and I think his future is Golden. Formals does the dirty work and I wonder if we are misplaying his talent. Lanzini just hasn’t recovered from that catastrophic injury
Then there is Bowen. He seems to have gone off the boil a bit but when he is on he is hard to play. Works hard defending in the 451 format. Perhaps too hard. Lingard may elevate this group to an B+ or an A-
Forwards B. Antonio Is not quite back to full fitness and now that seems to be effecting his finishing. Yarmolenko is better when he has no defensive duties I honestly think Mipo may become something special for us. But he needs to play.
Management A Moyes has done a truly remarkable job. We are in 5th. 5th. When most of us thought we’d be fighting relegation I love his backroom staff we are playing as a team due to them. I’m not happy with the way Moyes subs but we are 5th.
Ownership. D. I’m going to try and be fair here. This pandemic has made normal business impossible and none of us truly understand the finical situation they face. However if you can’t afford the club sell it. We act like a small team in transfers. Sell up please.
