Some highlights from our conversation below.

But first: In celebration of The Ink's first half birthday this week, I'm inviting you to subscribe -- with this three-month free trial. https://the.ink/HalfBirthdaySpecial
I asked @RoKhanna what had surprised him about @Potus's early moves, given how he ran.

https://the.ink/p/rokhanna
. @RoKhanna suggested that @POTUS may prove more progressive than the Democratic House, which is interesting coming from a progressive member.

I asked @RoKhanna whether progressives need a better strategy of building up to sweeping policy changes.

For example, should Medicare for All be tried in a few states, so that other states get super jelly?

I think this is an incredibly important nuance that gets lost in the debate.

There is a kind of incrementalism that is a substitute for real change -- a deflection away from it.

But there is another way of using that word: making changes to buy you space to make bigger changes.
I also talked with @RoKhanna about my obsession with using the vaccine rollout to tell a broader story about government.

Use the fight against a communicable disease to communicate in defense of the idea of the public good.

I asked @RoKhanna about the left's reluctance to invoke patriotism, thus ceding it to fascists.

"We're so concerned about a thoughtless jingoism, a sense of unreflective patriotism, that we hesitate to put out our own version of patriotism that should be much more reflective."
I talked with @RoKhanna about why the progressive message has often failed to connect with Black voters in the South, and what progressives can do better.

. @RoKhanna built on an idea that @ninaturner articulated to me last month: progressives need to better distinguish predatory capitalism by the killer whales from the aspiration of entrepreneurship that throbs in millions of regular people's hearts.

https://the.ink/p/rokhanna
And I spoke with @RoKhanna about a progressive American exceptionalism -- the story of how we are struggling now because we are trying something wondrous and difficult.

https://the.ink/p/rokhanna
. @RoKhanna is a member of Congress who truly THINKS.

I can't do justice to this interview on Twitter, so check it out in full here.
