Piggy backing off of @TCJaalin ‘s story: while I have experienced quite a few racial things at Disney. The first thing that comes to mind is 2017 at a gift shop at one of the All star resorts.
My roommate at the time and I were resort hopping and decided to check out the gift shop. Besides two other people, who were white and my roommate, I was the only black person in the gift shop.
For the most part, I was with my roommate the entire time except when I stepped away for a second to grab a coke to buy. That’s when I noticed that I was being followed. As I was looking around more, I continued to notice I was being followed by the white and female CM.
Even when I rejoined my roommate , I was being followed and eventually I got so uncomfortable that I just decided to check out and leave. She ended up checking us out and as me and my roomie were walking to my car, he told me that she was following the whole time.
Never once did she ask if I needed help with anything and I don’t recall her ever checking in with the other pair that was also in the gift store.
And this was just one of the more tamer stories. I have been called the N word and a monkey on Disney property by other guests before but for the most part, my experiences at Disney has been safe for me. But it goes to show that as a black person you can never fully escape.
You can never fully feel safe or escape these experiences, even in the most magical place on earth.
