We're releasing our latest @EE Mobile Network Index report, with insights on how and where 5G's used, and trends from the festive period.

#5G usage is soaring, with traffic growing more than 40% month on month between October and December 2020 📈

And we've seen usage more than doubling across those same three months.

YouTube, Facebook, Netflix and Instagram are still the most popular services on @EE’s 5G network, and month on month have seen traffic grow by at least 30%.

With more #5G devices arriving on the market and our network now available in 125 UK towns and cities, it’s interesting to see people in London, Birmingham and Manchester emerging as using 5G on @EE the most.

In Scotland, Glasgow tops the list. In Wales, Cardiff.

Our network brings people together while we can't meet in person: on Christmas Day, there was an uplift in Zoom users on @EE before and after 2pm, and a peak on NYE.

Facebook and WhatsApp use peaked at midnight on NYE, with Snapchat seeing peak traffic increase four-fold.

It's also helped keep us entertained.

Over the festive period, the evening of Dec 28 was the most popular time for #gaming services on @EE’s mobile network. Twitch saw its peak use at 7pm, followed by a peak for both PlayStation and Steam two hours later, at 9pm.

Leicester and Man United’s 2-2 Boxing Day draw saw the biggest uplift in @BTSport traffic on @EE over the festive period. Also popular:

•Man City v Newcastle – 8pm, Boxing Day
•Everton v West Ham – 5pm, NYD
•Spurs v Leeds – 2:30pm, Jan 2
•WBA v Arsenal – 8pm, Jan 2

Strava or it didn't happen?

After a gradual increase in popularity through the morning, the number of @Strava users on @EE’s mobile network peaked at 11:40 as people embraced the great outdoors for a Christmas Day walk, run, swim or bike ride.

Jan 4 marked the return to work for many.

Microsoft Outlook traffic on @EE was at its highest at 9am that morning – with peak traffic increasing four-fold compared to the same time the week prior.

Skype traffic also surged, peaking at 11am on Jan 5 as routines restarted.

The start of January brought heightened restrictions and school closures in England. When the Prime Minister appeared on the BBC at 8pm on the January 4, BBC traffic on @EE’s mobile network doubled from the hour before, and the same time a day earlier.
