When I first started going to Liverpool for games it was always part of a supporters club from Ireland, usually 8-10 of us would go, get over Friday night, go on the piss in town, go the game Saturday then back on it then back home on Sunday.
Great times were had tbf
But
Each time over it was just the same thing, drinking in touristy type bars and sticking with the same groups of lads all weekend etc.
I always felt like something was missing from the whole experience, it was a bit well, touristy.
It was great to be there like but felt soulless
Do I started going over on me own.
Arranged to meet people off here, scousers.
This was a game changer for me, being part of their pre game rituals, drinking in their pubs around the ground, and back to the pub to do the post mortem after the game
They showed me around their city, proper Scouse tours with hilarious stories attached.
Brought me into their homes and made sure I wanted for nothing.
Showed me the old photos and told me the stories their dads and granddads told of the kop
Listening to the pride and passion, the love for the club and their city.
Their pride, their us against them attitude, their Scouse not english beliefs, their politics, their humour, their generosity, their ruthlessness and togetherness in the face of the enemy
This is a people I could and can identify with.
They shaped how I support Liverpool today.
One of the worlds biggest club with a strong Scouse heartbeat.
I’m a proud Irishman,
but I gorra lorra love for me scousers.

UP THE FUCKING REDS
