1/ The past few days have seen worrying developments in the @Europarl_EN on #Bosnia and Herzegovina involving MEPs @davidmcallister and @ZovkoEU.
2/ @ZovkoEU is a former #BiH ambassador appointed by #HDZ BiH leader @Dragan_Covic and a former HDZ BiH party official. She entered the @Europarl_EN on the ticket of the Croatian sister party @HDZ_HR.
3/ In the @Europarl_EN she serves as Čović’s Trojan horse promoting a Bosnian Croat nationalist agenda, i.e., a third Croat entity thinly veiled as “federalization” of BiH. This creates a glaring conflict of interest.
4/ On Jan. 25, as newly elected vice-chair, in an unprecedented move, @ZovkoEU chaired an @EP_ForeignAff session discussing the EP draft report on #BiH – this could not have happened without @davidmcallister support.
5/ On Jan. 28, @davidmcallister chaired a closed roundtable on BiH organized by the EP’s Democracy Support and Election Co-ordination Group (DEG), which he co-chairs. It is highly unusual for the DEG to discuss BiH.
6/ @ZovkoEU presented the panelists and their intended roles even though she is not a DEG member and was not listed on the agenda. This suggests that she may have had a role in organizing the online roundtable.
7/ Among the speakers were Gordon Bardos, an academic known for promoting ultra-nationalist Serb views, who left @HarrimanInst after a public outcry over his hosting a PR event for Bosnian Serb nationalist leader Milorad Dodik. Another speaker was…
8/ ... @mprelec, former staffer and current consultant w/ @CrisisGroup, which for years has presented a #Kosovo- #Serbia land swap as a possible solution, including in a recent paper, another option being a non-contiguous autonomy that resembles the (virtual) third entity concept.
9/ In another glaring conflict of interest, alongside @TPicula, another Croatian MEP from the @SDPHrvatske, @ZovkoEU is also a co-rapporteur on IPA, monitoring the use of #EU funds in #BiH, including by officials from her own party.
10/ One has to wonder where @davidmcallister’s new-found interest in #BiH comes from; he has not been known before for any particular focus on the country.
