Geordie Score

Palace travel to St James Park this evening, as a fan, it’s one of the best away trips in the season. I rather optimistically booked my flights when the fixtures came out 🙄😂.

Here’s a mini thread on the times I’ve seen Newcastle.

Do You Remember The First Time?

My first trip to Newcastle was in the FA Cup in ‘88. Pardew looked to have given us the lead but the ref spoiled the fun before Gazza scored from a million miles just on HT.

Despite their win, the locals ambushed the police convoy afterwards!
Favourite Game:

‘Cisse, Cisse what’s the score’?!

Nov ‘15, Papiss Cisse puts the Geordies 1 up & decides to go out of his way to give it to Block B. 7 mins later Palace are 2-1 up & Cisse is getting it!

2 for Bolasie & Jimmy Mac, Wilf weighed in with 1 as the game finished 5-1
Away Day:

Newcastle is a great away day be it by plane, train or automobile. Pubs galore & with the ground in the city centre, you literally step out the pub & follow the crowd. Before you leave the pub, use the loo, there are 14 flights to climb before you see the pitch!
Worst Game:

Relegated at St James’ Park in ‘95 finishing 4th bottom on 45 points, only Palace!

We went into the game knowing we needed to win to stand any chance of staying up. Ruel Fox terrorised us, 3 down at HT before the fight back that gave brief hope. 3-2 it finished 🥲
Favourite Goal:

The return of the prodigal son.

Aug ‘14, Gayle gives Palace a 1st min lead, 94 minutes later it’s 3-2 to Newcastle when Zaha smashes home a dramatic equaliser on his 2nd debut for the club. Up in the Gods, there are limbs. A fairytale return for Wilf.
Magical Memories

2 stick in my mind
- Jan ‘02, Alex Kolinko goes walk about before sprinting back from the corner flag to make a full length save.
- April ‘19, in the posh seats with the lad. Told the boy, don’t celebrate if we score. Wilf goes down, I scream! 1 lonely voice 😂
Last Game:

Feb 2020, Roy under big pressure following a poor run of results. This felt make or break. Palace dominated from the start & were rewarded on the stroke of HT by a PVA free kick.

In typical Palace style it got nervy towards the end but we held on for a big 3 points.
He Played For Both Clubs:

‘He used to play in black & white, I don’t know why, now he wears red & blue Yohan Cabaye.....’

Signed from PSG in ‘15, a marquee signing for Palace. Cabaye’s display for the Toon at Selhurst in ‘13 is still as good as any I’ve seen by an oppo player.
