A few people have recently asked me how I grew my network. When I started working in tech I was based in Florida and knew no one.
Here's what worked for me. YMMV:
Here's what worked for me. YMMV:
1/ Focus on getting to know people, not just getting to know what they do for work.
2/ Give A LOT more than you take. Don't expect things in return.
3/ Find the super-connectors. If you're moving to NYC - @MikeMacCombie, SF - @rexsalisbury, Miami - @bunsen other cities, idk! Tag those people
4/ Be authentic. Don't put on a fake act just to appease other people.
5/ Learn, build, and ask in public. Could be on a blog, Medium, or Twitter (my favorite). Writing high quality in your niche is a great place to start.
6/ Introduce high quality in your network to other high quality people. Connecting great people is a lot of fun!
7/ Lastly, say "yes" to meeting more people. Hard during a pandemic but I love meeting new people over coffee.
