Hey, just wanted to drop a quick thread on Yield10 Biosciences $YTEN. But first a disclaimer this is a very small company 50 million range, and a very small float, so one should expect high volatility sharp moves up and down. I'd recommend either investing in the story or not.
In addition, this company is still pre-commercialization, and has been around while without producing a product. However a company with a market cap around 50 million, who shows promising data results, and estimates they can be at over 1b annual rev. Is a good asymmetrical oppt.
So first some background about the company. Yield10 was first started by M.I.T. Professor Anthony Silinsky and Oliver people as "Metabolix" where their aim was make plants biodegradable to help curb pollution waste in the ocean.
During their work of engineering microbes in plants, they discovered that by increasing the biomass in plants it actually hurt their growth as the carbon captured via photosynthesis was now being diverted onto the "new" microbes called PHB's.
So in 2015 they shifted gears and began capturing different ways to help improve the natural photosynthesis process of crops. Here's a short video summarizing what they do from the company.
Initially I wanted to summarize their presentation, but I think the original is far better so here's is a presentation from CRISPR AgBio Congress this past December. https://ir.yield10bio.com/static-files/a3036115-8eab-4e97-af21-0cfadf8f6cbb

And their most recent one on their current position as a company. https://ir.yield10bio.com/static-files/cf303405-7952-494c-b7c8-fa017c8b0dd9
They had a big run up after the data, but today dipped after announcing a public stock offering. In addition this morning Morgan Stanley disclosed in a 13g filing a 5% stake in the company. https://ir.yield10bio.com/node/15581/html
The majority of the company seems to have been owned by Jack Schuller https://fintel.io/so/us/yten , who has sold some of his stake to bring in more shareholders. He owns over 50% of the company. Schuller was previously president and COO at Abbot labatories, so good to see those creds
I view this more as a VC type of investment where this is either going nowhere or being a gigantic winner over time. Before even thinking about this I'd recommend all the above links, and doing you own DD. As always this is not financial advice. Just sharing some things I found
If you have any insight into the viability of them actually bringing a product to line an degenerating rev. pls let me know.
I don't have a strong opinion on this company's future success. But their backgrounds are impressive, their data is compelling, and the goal is ambitious as it gets. I've put a small allocation and will be following their story
Seems funny to me that $aqb is worth over 570 million 10x this company all while not generating any rev. I understand they closer to commercialization but this seems like a steep discount. @kingtutspacs @deadnsyde
