So, I did not pass my qualifying exam. The feedback was that I knew some of the higher-level concepts but some of the fundamentals weren't coming across. However, I do get to try again in 6 months because my committee believes I can pass.

I forgot to study the basics...

It took me DAYS to come to terms with the results. @ 1st I felt that I wasted the time of those who've helped me in life. Once my mind was clear enough to understand WHY I didn't pass, I shamed myself for not studying the physics and chem funds. during the 5 months I studied.
I shamed myself because I remembered being told by my mentor back in Oct to study the basics. Regardless of the number of high-level concepts I know, I came into my qualifying exam with an already weak foundation because I forgot the damn basics...
So after taking 4 days off to follow thru on my post-qual plan of binge-watching anime, playing D&D, and living my best pandemic life, I'm finally ready to get back to filling those knowledge gaps I have.
I guess Twitter will be seeing more of my science illustrations and color-coded notes while I'm re-learning the fundamentals.
It feels good to be back!
