i have a lot to say, and im not sure if it's going to come out offensive T_T but please hear me out, i am truly sorry to the affected stays and please know that i will stand by you guys. what jisung did was not okay and he needs to own up to what he did.
i'm going to be honest, the racial slur jisung said is a very common thing that can be heard in malaysia (my area esp) when i was a kid, but i'm not going to speak for other malaysians, this is just based on my own experience.
back in primary and secondary school, everyone used to throw that slur around like a joke and nobody got offended (which is why everyone thought it was okay to use it). in fact, the boys in my class and even my brother uses the slur as a joke in daily chats just for laughs.
racism, colorism and white worshipping is still a thing in malaysia and it isn't talked about much because my country still isn't as progressive. in fact, if you go to local platforms, you can see the amount of racism happening.
if jisung grew up in the same environment as me, then that is probably why i think jisung didn't think about how much harm saying that would cause. even i found out that it was a very offensive racial slur at 14 years old...
my family has also been hiring foreign maid to take care of my grandma and for years they have been telling us to not treat them nice since they are lower than us. it was THAT bad in my case, but that's the mentality that was imprinted into me since young from my environment.
and that environment was toxic. i had to learn it all from the internet and educate myself to be better and be a better person.
im not saying all these to justify jisung's action, heck no, he needs to own up what he did and everyone that was affected deserves an apology.
but i just wanted to say that environment shapes how a person think and i grew up having same thoughts like jisung too, until i educated myself to change and i believe jisung did too.
so, let's hope that jisung will address this situation and apologise. but please please do not send any hate or death threats, that is not the way to educate someone, it will only worsen the situation; especially since he has anxiety too.
educate, be the bigger person and he will listen to us.
