Okay now that the poll has ended, this question tore a discord apart because @heyshrn and @k__am wanted to know who was right and most of the discord is team NOSE so WHY THE HELL ARE 60% OF YA'LL TEAM MOUTH!!!
After discussion we found that people who see the . as a nose see it like a face that is peeking from behind something, or the top half of a face. People who see it as a mouth see the dot as a really tiny slightly barely open mouth! One more surprise in the next tweet btw...
I don't want to skew his poll so I don't want to directly RT this (and please don't vote there just to affect his poll), but @StatsmanBruno made his own version of the poll and he has THE EXACT OPPOSITE RESULT!

Everyone agrees -'s and _'s are mouths
Not universally but people are more likely to see T.T and ^.^ as mouths because the . is further from the eyes
A lot of debate about how important consistency is and if noses or mouths can be "correctly" stylized as dots

After tearing the discord apart at the seams though, unlike different opinions on basic human rights, it's nice to remember that it's okay to remain friends with people who have different opinions about silly stuff like this. Even if they're obviously WRONG
