You know why I have stayed out of the GRA debate (apart from the fact I am a straight white male who really has no business commenting) - simple! And its not a political reason, it's a functional one with relation to the current situation Scotland finds itself in.
Because of the limitations of power that Holyrood has due to only being devolved, not independent, any legislation that is passed will ultimately end up discriminating one way or another, so long as most of the power over civil rights law remains at Westminster.
Moses and Jesus are playing golf. Moses steps up to the tee and hits a beautiful shot 250 yards straight down the middle of the fairway. Jesus steps up to the tee and hooks the ball into the trees.
Jesus looks up into the heavens, raises his arms, and suddenly the sky darkens. A thunderclap rings out, rain pours down, and a stream rises among the trees. The golf ball floating on top finds its way into the mouth of a fish.
Then a bird flies down and takes the fish and the ball out over the green, drops it in the cup for a hole-in-one. Jesus turns to Moses with a satisfied grin, and Moses says, 'Look. You wanna play golf or you wanna f*ck around?'
The point I am trying to make is that any laws passed until the current loons at Westminster will always be deficient. Independence means a clean slate for Scotland in terms of enshrining rights, not for one group or another, but for everyone.
We literally have the opportunity to toss out the entire thing and start from scratch, removing the deficiencies that result in anything currently passed at Holyrood looking like a spit, baling wire and duct tape solution.
The SNP pursuing things like this is the wrong legislation at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons. Independence on the other hand creates the right time, the right circumstances to just fix the lot from dot one.
So it's a choice between spit and bailing wire that satisfies no-one, vs a clean slate and fixing it for everyone.

So my point is, you wanna fix these issues through independence, or do you wanna f*ck around?
And while we're at it, with independence we can fix health and social care, pensions, benefits, drug deaths and every other issue we've had our hands tied behind our backs on for 300 years.
