Black artists i love y'all should follow and support. buy their merch, follow them on spotify, purchase their music, gush about them until everyone knows who they are! these are in no particular order...
first @NnamdiOgbonnaya. released maybe my favorite album of 2020. he's doing stuff no one else is doing. it's weird, it's never the same, it's thoughtful, and makes me fucking jazzed. brat is a masterpiece, Black plight is a masterpiece, and i personally adore krazy karl.
next @anjimilemusic exploded with giver taker. it's a perfect sound. a killer vocal, beautifully tragic and poetic lyrics, and production's out of control. coincidentally, i showed them to jonas (our bass player) and anjimile might be their favorite artist from last year.
then we've go @backxwash absolutely perfecting horror-core. extremely personal, gruesome at times, unsettling yet mesmerizing. endless flow and powerful lyricism. the experimentation and sample choices are really outstanding and i just love what she's doing.
no surprise @Bartees_Strange crushing. killing it. mixing blues, hip hop, r&b, rock, punk, whatever. boundless both in music and success. exceptional producer, writer, and singer. inspirational guitarist. love this man.
if you like us you'll love @JhariahClare. you just will. eclectic, theatrical, blast your head off production and songwriting. jazz, electronic, emo. if you think we're doing cool stuff with the genre check him out! also, brilliant animator making incredible music videos
. @thebigeasyband released a straight forward garagey pop punk emotional album last year. they have less than 1000 monthly listeners on spotify... what're y'all doing? they fucking rule!
our friend @fleece_kawasaki has an incredible vocal! beautiful, chilling melodies. gorgeous, sweeping compositions. he's another one of the smaller ones in this thread and y'all are going to be kicking yourselves for not finding him sooner.
then @lanndsofficial is a newer introduction i've had that i just love. catchy, lofi, pop/hip hop. love the synth production they're pulling off and the vocals are so layed back and fucking smooth. chill, and at times, heavy production that makes my brain tingle.
. @MMATAband feels interesting with how much it seems like they're blowing up. i don't know if i'd be introducing anyone to them, but they're incredible. exciting pop punk with a killer vocal and tight, big instrumentation. catchy as hell.
. @mintgreenmusic fun compositions, great lyrics, twinkly guitars, driving drums, and a soft, precise vocal. pop punk and emo that i particularly enjoy for the variation on the regular form you would expect from this kind of music.
. @TheMuzlimz write the justifiable anger and frustration into music like no one else. "punch a nazi, call the cops, blink 9-11 (what's my race again?)." blunt. harsh. goes hard. just fucking good.
. @NovaTwinsMusic fucking intense experimental rock. if you care about guitar tone at all listen to this and get your ass kicked. love the production on this. catchy, abrasive, outstanding.
. @NurDRocks if you're tired of white people doing "nerdcore" rap nur-d is the remedy. he raps about the things he loves and what's important to him which happens to be a lot of nerd shit, but also really powerful stuff about race and growing up.
. @oceanator had a tremendous release with "things i never said" last year. it was a personal favorite of mine. simple, powerful compositions with a clean vocal. a really nice pop punk/indie blend.
. @pinkshiftmd i'm putting pinkshift on here because i really believe in supporting artists even if they aren't fronting the band and myron is just a powerful, dynamic drummer. the band clearly wouldn't be the same without each of it's members and they are all just crushing it.
. @pompomsquad i swear there was a 3 month period back when i first found "ow" where i was telling everyone i knew to listen to it. love this project, has fresh as hell merch. one of my all time favorite vocals, personal driving lyrics, and great indie compositions.
. @poolbloooood another of the smaller artists here, catchy melodies and gorgeous vocal. haunting at times. very garagey feel to the instrumentation clashes with the precise, soft vocal in a really enticing way.
. @likerealproper some of the best lyrics i've ever heard. passionate pop punk. really showing love for the genre and expanding on it in a necessary way. released one of the best songs of 2020 with "don't". less than 5000 monthly listeners, what are y'all doing?
. @QuintonBrock_ changing rock music forever isn't just a catch phrase. i found quinton cos of bartees a long time ago with "scooter." but "to the moon" as a vision of what's to come should make anyone excited. love this artist and can't wait to see what's about to happen here.
. @serenaisioma a pop/hip hop/r&b/soul powerhouse. catchy as hell. incredible vocal. washy, driving production with a ton of vocal layering. another pretty big artist that i'm not sure i'm even introducing to anyone, but if you somehow hadn't heard of them, please check them out.
. @shalfi_ brilliant guitar focused instrumental compositions. soft, precious laid back production. excellent writer and player.
. @ShamirBailey unapologetically glamorous lofi/rock/disco. dancey production and poppy vocal with melody layering that fills these songs to the brim. catchy both melodically and instrumentally.
. @arnold_parmesan i feel like barely anyone i talk to knows teamonade and i fucking love their music. incredible compositions! love the lyrics and vocal so much! their single "goin thru it" from last year is everything i want in a song. great indie rock. great leads.
. @vagabonvagabon another most people know, i think, but gorgeous evocative music. a strange lyrical performance at times that i adore. never exactly what you'd expect. beautiful indie/electronic/pop.
. @DreDupre_ personal friend and ridiculous lyricist, producer, and performer. it would mean a lot for all of you to check out his work. he's got a lock on the soft and emotional, all the way to the dancey clubby mixes. a true lover of hip hop crushing it in his own right.
