Y’all, when folks say mutual aid is the biggest threat to the state, WE MEAN IT. The most ‘dangerous” thing the Black Panther Party did was serve free meals. Mutual aid groups are starting to see lawsuits. This has happened before, but now is becoming more common.
Most recently (yesterday/day before I believe), a MA group in Atlanta got served for food distribution under the guise of not complying with COVID19 guidelines. Keep participating in mutual aid efforts. It is terrifying to the state and immensely helpful to the community.
Hello this thread is 100% muted so sorry (but not all that sorry, because boundaries are important) if I don’t see y’alls replies!
Popping back in to say: I shouldn’t have trivialized the other actions of the BPP by saying the most dangerous thing they did was provide free meals. I put “dangerous” in quotes in the original tweet to convey that *I*/most others truly do not think that is a dangerous activity,
yet it is incredibly threatening in the eyes of the state (look up Edgar Hoover’s statement on the BPP for more info). That is what I meant by that, and I’m so sorry that wasn’t clear!
The BPP was founded to and functioned as a revolutionary armed group of Black people that
patrolled Black neighborhoods to protect residents from police brutality, and called for the arming of all Black americans, the release of all incarcerated Black people, etc., etc. (Please go do more research on them if you don’t know much about them [using non-white sources!]
because they did far more than I can fit in a tweet or two.)

Again, so sorry for the lack of clarity and thank you to the folks that brought this to my attention.
