Seen/heard much of the footage/audio on the USA #4Corners story from various other places (inhaled too much content from U.S in Jan). But making a white supremacist look like a normalish person by doing a calm face-to-face, sit-down interview..needs to be approached differently.
Yes need to understand what makes them tick, but concerned he got a nicely lit, calm interview..his inner bile & hatred was not so vigorously revealed, excavated, or held to account. Took most of show before we heard from a Black person. On the street..in situ..working

At one point in the interview his innuendo and carefully placed words seemed to imply he had police protection .. "I have faith". The riddles of a wh*te supr*macist.

Fine line. World needs to know/ understand what's going on in such groups. How can investigative journos approach these intervws? (I'm not one). Is it by making sure the serious harms of the groups' actions are front & centre? #4Corners

I don't have the expertise..the courageous #4Corners team do. Context is everything for me..and that's the amazing gift of strong journalism..excavating context, history, the full picture. One-on-one accountability interviews with corrupt or dangerous folk are part of that...
..but that format can also feel like a chance for individuals in hate groups to spin, to look human when they are often deeply, disturbingly inhumane.
Reflections..after watching. Hard to distill complex melange of reactions. #4Corners team obvs grapple with this stuff every day
I don't envy the task, the important task. It's hard , perplexing and vital reporting to do ..& carefully.. especially in the reignited context of populists fuelled by hatred, disaffection, racism. Thanks for the opportunity to further reflect...as always.
I need to walk the dog to think further on all this. Then into an edit with key mRNA pioneers... that's the show this week... that's my schtick!
