Seeing as we're all reminiscing I thought I (MK) would tell you a story. It's about a record.
Do you have a record that SCREAMED rebellion at you, something that got you through the dredgery of the normie life you grew up in? I have a few but one is undoubtedly...
...DOOKIE by Green Day.
Aged 14 I decided I was a punk after taping a Virgin Recs compilation but it was old music, you know? When Basket Case came on the telly, with the sweary words and breakneck pop snap it was like an nrg injection into my brain...
...and I got Dookie from the library. Taped it and wore it out. It's just a perfect pop record, whether you're a punk purist or not.
Anyway, I ended up buying a full length Dookie T shirt and the next Saturday planned to head into Central and Idk, hang around GOMA...
... but I wasn't punk enough. So I did what every punk does and bought some neon orange hair dye from Virginia Galleries or some other head shop.
As a punk, I didn't bother reading the instructions so did a bit of slicing with some kitchen scissors and lathered the stuff on...
...after it dried I had a completely hacked barnet of still dark hair. I don't know why but I didn't look in the mirror. I left on the Glasgow Central train to strut about town representing my new favourite band only to be DESTROYED by the other goths hanging around...
... I had dyed my scalp a radioactive orange that was shining through the obliterated haircut like a glowing ember of awkwardness and I was PELTED for it. I Shudder to this day.
Dookie is late 20th century classic and you should buy it at this good price: https://bit.ly/36AdJ9M
Of course i had not realised you had to bleach your dark hair first. Rookie mistake.
ANYWAY, what's your Dookie?
