The biggest piece of irony surrounding Eren is how while his ideal is absolute freedom and how he's been humanity's symbol for freedom, he's been exposed to a future that is set in stone, whose events are cannot be changed.
As time went on, more and more events that he saw in his future memories have come true and it became clear to him that he was walking on a path devoid of freedom of choice. Coupled with his deep-seated inferiority complex it caused his sense of isolation and frustration to grow
This conversation is the culmination of that irony. Eren, at this point in the story, has been showing a lack of emotion, and Armin pointing out that he is a slave hit the nail on the head and caused him to lash out through his facade
It's also important to note how he definitely does feel remorse for his actions and nature. It's his nature to fight and keep moving forward, but he also laments this; it's a contradiction within him that certainly exacerbated his sense of isolation and frustration.
What I mean by this sense of isolation is how he cannot share his ideal with anyone. It started with seeing the enemy's unwavering hatred for his nation, then his methods being disparaged by his allies, and then his closest friends
The difference in nuance in Armin's and Eren's dream is something I already touched on in this thread, and it's something that is now the centerpiece of the series' endgame https://twitter.com/darknessor_matt/status/1318544619509043200?s=20
