Despite protections meant to keep renters in their homes during a pandemic, at least 527 people in the Bay Area have been evicted between mid March and the end of December, according to sheriff lockout lists from all nine counties. https://www.kqed.org/news/11856817/more-than-500-bay-area-residents-have-been-evicted-during-the-pandemic-despite-protections
When we looked at where evictions were happening, roughly half were taking place in Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties, with clusters in Antioch, San Jose, and Vallejo.
It also revealed racial and economic disparities.
Neighborhoods with more evictions had higher rates of poverty and rent burden. And Black renters were more than 2x as likely to be evicted than white renters.
@timthomas: “Evictions really are a civil rights issue."
