Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate Black artists and technicians, whose presence and talent are essential to our Industry. To acknowledge that Black artists and technicians have been, and are still being, denied their rightful place at every level of our Industry
We see some of the hard-won victories reflected in this timeline. It's an opportunity for White people of privilege in the Industry- people like many of us- to examine all the ways in which we benefit from and uphold systems that hold Whiteness as the standard.
We must realize that these "firsts" occurred because up until that point, White people denied Black artists and technicians access. We must acknowledge that Black History Month is necessary because every other month is focused on White History.
It's an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the fullness of Black culture, heritage, and history in all its dynamic forms. #BlackHistoryMonth
