I don’t know who needs to hear this but when someone says their pronouns are they/them it’s not optional
And if you’re like “you’ll just have to be patient” when we tell you “they/them” please realize: we already are, all day every day, with literally every person we meet.
I guarantee you, the more you practice slowing down and respecting someone’s personhood or putting someone else’s well being before your own, you’ll do it with everyone even more, about more than just pronouns. And maybe even yourself.
It’s not about making mistakes or not making mistakes or being right and wrong, it’s about putting more energy into being careful than being careless.
