So, how to destroy a language? Easy. Make sure that children do not get access to material such as cartoons, books or TV episodes in their own language. That's what's happening in Iceland - and probably more widely as streaming services become the norm but not in local language.

@disneyplus is now available in Iceland but for some reason it is not available in Icelandic. I think almost all Disney cartoons have been dubbed in Iceland and it's something we're proud of, but alas, we cannot get it in Icelandic except via our old VHS or something.

Not only that - you make sure that if you live in a certain region you cannot get access to certain cartoons in your language. A polish child living in Iceland? You can have it in Danish or English. Swedish kid living in Brussels? No Swedish for you.

This is stupid greedy Geo-blocking and something else that I don't fully understand. If it has to do with royalties for the dubbing and singing, @disneyplus is rich enough to pay few poor Icelandic artists for it. If it has to do about licensing agreements, then just do it.

Because smaller languages are already struggling, meaning the small wealth there is in old Disney movies is actually quite much, both culturally and linguistically.
