Would someone please explain to me how Thomas was rude to Ryan in SLOTLT? Like yeah, he refused to share a shed with him (for one night, might I add) and allowed him to take on the bad coal, but what else did he actually do?

Thomas throughout the film is upset with Ryan because-
-he's taking over Thomas' duties on his branch line, and because Thomas doesn't believe the accident was his fault, of course he's going to be annoyed by the engine taking over his line because he thinks Ryan is stealing his line from him.

In SLOTLT, Thomas is using Ryan as a -
- thing he can project his anger towards. Thomas throughout the film is continually trying to displace blame from himself and onto other characters, which occurs in every single one of the scenes where he causes an accident.

Thomas isn't a dick to JUST Ryan in SLOTLT, he's a -
- dick to multiple engines and refuses to accept blame even when an accident is his fault.

In this sense, I'd argue Thomas in SLOTLT is the most in-character he's been in years - he's a little shithead who thinks he's the best engine on the line, and has to be brought back -
- down to earth whenever he gets carried away.

Kinda got sidetracked there, but the point is:

1. Thomas is a dick in SLOTLT, but it's in line with his core character, and I'd argue he's more in-character here than in TAB.
2. Thomas projecting his anger onto Ryan and being rude to him twice (and apologizing for the bad coal incident) isn't out of character for him either. Sure, he doesn't apologize for the other incidents but I think Ryan gets that he's sorry anyways so it all works out.
Bottom line, the way Thomas was rude to Ryan in SLOTLT isn't nearly as bad as it could have been (he was a bigger dick in the books and even S1-5), and the whole point of the film is Thomas learning WHY he's wrong for being a dick, so I'd say it's fine, honestly
