As of 31st March 2017, there were 331 PSU's. 174 PSU's made profit of 1,52,647 crore rupees. 82 PSU's made losses of 25,042 crore rupees.
So the profit Making companies are more in number and many companies are going to report profit in near future.

Now the point is why govt disinvesting?
Burden? Not at all.
To minimise the fiscal deficit.There is FRBM act. It requires the govt to limit the fiscal deficit to 3% of the GDP by 31 March 2021 and the debt of the central government to 40% of the GDP by 2024-25,among others.
