When the internet was really just becoming popular it was fun to have a completely different online anonymous persona. It was fantasy. With social media amplifying those fantasies, perceptions between real life & fantasy are blurring - and fewer people are afraid of who knows.
Part of that is because logging off during early internet meant something. You stopped being connected. Now the phone is always on, connected, and an extension of our bodies.
