A thread on why you should NEVER judge a player's game by stats or rating apps like SofaScore , WhoScored etc.
These rating apps and stats don't show us how good the player's positioning has been in the game.

A player can not touch the ball and still have the greatest impact on a goal.
Players with the ability to make smart/blind-side runs don't get appreciated as they're not stats.

Also if a player DOESN'T make proper runs when they're needed , no one will ever notice that if they just look at stats.

Productivity of players aren't shown on rating apps.
Intelligence , smartness and awareness of the player cannot be seen via stats

The same can be said for defenders.

Poor positioning while defending has no stats and a defender's positioning could easily be the reason why a goal was conceded.

The 'Error Leading to Goal' stat only accounts for when a player loses possession by a pass or dribble.
Everyone remembers this right?

Well this was not registered as a 'big chance missed' because he didn't take a shot. Instead he managed a succ dribble and a pass there which made his rating end up getting higher.

A SofaScore Rating doesn't tell us how good or bad a player was.
A player could choose to ignore a teammates run and instead pass it backwards, this will count as an acc pass.

These BW passes eventually will bump up the rating ignoring the fact that they missed opportunities to create chances

Stats don't show the negativity of a player.
Everyone saw this amazing pass by Trent yesterday , but according to SofaScore he registered 0 Key Passes against West Ham.
Conclusion : Stats never tell the full story of the player's performance, Eye Test is the most important thing in judging a player.

A player could make multiple positioning or decision making errors and the stats won't show it.

If you want to judge a player , watch him play.
