1) To officially kick off Black History Month, we have to jump ahead a little in our timeline through the Civil Rights Trail to honor what took place in North Carolina, 61 years ago today.
2) The Greensboro Sit Ins were started by four Black Students, Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr, and David Richmond from the North Carolina Agricultural & Technical College.
3) Within just a few short days, there were over 300 people protesting segregation at the Woolworth Counter. Not long after this, protests erupted around the country at different Woolworth counters.
4) These non-violent protests ultimately lead to the F. W. Woolworth Company to end its policy of racial segregation.
Today the Woolworth Store in Greensboro North Carolina is the International Civil Rights Museum.
