From the stories we have read about the music industry, and our own feminist knowledge about the position of women under patriarchy, why do people still push the narrative #onhere that female artistes have their "sexuality" (male-directed sexy behaviour) repressed?
When the more likely occurrence is that they are either advised (pressured) by execs to be sexy, or they themselves have looked at the visible female artistes, seen that they are sexy and notably supported for being sexy, and decided to be the same?
Feminists should be curious about the fact that there is such a diverse range of successful male artistes and the subjects of their music, and, increasingly, only one type of female artiste, and music theme.
