Shedding influential figures who resist this shift will help end pointless intra-party past-vs-present battles, and let the right focus on building new coalitions and a new class of leaders and institutions.
I also don’t think this shift will leave all legacy Reps voting Dem (though some may refuse to consider the GOP out of bitterness).

The most important thing is that such people no longer set the agenda of the GOP, allowing this to instead be set by leaders with an understanding of our political moment and what it will take to compete in coming decades.
