ADDRESSING YOUR WES (US&CANADA) EVALUATION CONCERNS

Sequel to my brief conversation with Dr @olumuyiwaayo & @EstherAdebi about WES evaluation, I'm motivated to write more useful info on the @WorldEdServices evaluation process as it applies to Nigerian applicants.

1/
Why do you need WES?

1. For immigration: Most times, you need to evaluate your highest degree only (usually document-by-document evaluation).

Apart from that, you can evaluate your professional degree/certificate, see @Dr_Adeleke's thread https://twitter.com/Dr_Adeleke/status/1350813558494420993?s=19.2.

2/
2. For education: You will (may) evaluate all your degrees starting from ND/NCE/BSc up to the highest degree level (course-by-course evaluation).

Useful links on WES website:
1. Sign Up: https://applications.wes.org/createaccount  (choose US/Canada)

2. Pre-evaluation: https://www.wes.org/wes-tools

3/
This link enables you to convert from your say 5.0/7.0 scale to 4.0 scale (US/Canada system). It also enables you to check your degree equivalence.

Through this channel, you can predetermine your GPA before your WES evaluation. There could be a minimal difference though.

4/
Please Note: You are likely to end up with a more interesting GPA if you have done very well in the last two years of your undergraduate program. First-year courses are considered as lower courses. For instance, I graduated with 4.24/5.00 but my WES equivalence is 3.61/4.00.

5/
This suggests that you can be better placed with your 2.2 degree. HND graduates are not left out, please check @Okpala_IU thread: https://twitter.com/Okpala_IU/status/1259374904178282498.

3. Document required: https://applications.wes.org/required-documents

Endeavor to send the right documents to WES to avoid delayed evaluation.

6/
Fees:
There is a standard fee for the evaluation. See https://www.wes.org/evaluations-and-fees/immigration. However, your choice of courier service will determine the additional cost. See my responses in this thread https://twitter.com/EstherAdebi/status/1354145401167892481.

Please go for what you need, not just want you think is cool.

7/
Evaluating a single degree/transcript or more at the same time will attract a similar fee.

After a successful payment, you will be given a reference number.

This reference number must appear on all the documents you are sending to WES in order to avoid mix up.

8/
Sending documents:
Reach out to your school directly or through a TRUSTED third party. Nigerian schools will essentially charge you for the transcript to the WES office. Still the same fee they will charge you when you are sending transcripts to other North American schools.

9/
There should be an electronic option, I am not sure. Please confirm from WES.

My schools sent my documents by post. Ensure that a photocopy of your certificate is included in your transcript envelope. Else, you will fax it to WES. Write your WES reference number on it.

10/
Do remember to attached transcript label https://applications.wes.org/onlineapp/pdf/International_Transcript_Request.pdf if need be.

Notification:
You will be notified by WES as soon as they receive your document. You can monitor your WES profile by downloading WES app on the Play or Apple store. You can also check on your web.

11/
WES will have to do a verification of your document by contacting your school through post and email. This will be done simultaneously. This is where people miss it. You must visit the registrar's or postgraduate school office to follow up closely.

12/
Some schools in Nigeria have a standard fee for the confirmation of your degree/transcript and response to WES. YOU MUST PAY THIS FEE BEFORE THEY RESPOND to WES, while some schools do not charge, but you have to follow up closely. In fact, follow up even if you have paid.

13/
Encourage your school to reply WES via email. It is very fast and will save time. Replying by post might complicate things.

Note that the official email on your transcript will receive the verification request.

Feel free to drop your question or add to this thread. PLS RT
