THREAD: Based on what we've been hearing from people involved in #CommunitySponsorship, here are 5 things we want to see in the UK's resettlement plans (1/6) https://resetuk.org/blogs/5-things-we-want-see-home-office%E2%80%99s-resettlement-plans
1. Scale: To maintain its important role in resettlement on the global stage & to play its part, we want to see the UK welcoming a minimum of 5,000 refugees per year. (2/6)
2. We want to see communities, Local Authorities & resettlement agencies welcoming refugees. #CommunitySponsorship groups benefit hugely from the expertise of Local Authorities & resettlement agencies. Any degradation of their capacity is a huge loss to #CommunitySponsorship 3/6
3. Additionality of #CommunitySponsorship: when the Home Office announced the UKRS, there was a commitment that refugees welcomed through Community Sponsorship would be in addition to govt targets. We want to see this commitment maintained. (4/6)
4. Family reunification: We want to see routes for family reunification either established more strongly across resettlement or as a complementary pathway. We believe that #CommunitySponsorship could be adapted to support family reunification. (5/6)
5. Safe routes to asylum: resettlement must complement a humane asylum system. We believe the government should explore safe routes to asylum in the UK, including humanitarian visas. (6/6)
